Chinese speakers should really become aware of how much they rely on the written word, and one of the very important reasons why they do this - i.e. they read Chinese quite a bit faster than English speakers (and speakers of other languages with an alphabetic writing system) read English! And that they really need to push themselves to listen more, especially when it comes to language learning!

Chinese speakers generally are not very familiar with the basic grammar rules of modern Chinese, in spite of being native speakers. In English the important information may come at the beginning, middle or end of a sentence, but in Chinese it should come at the end. Knowing this can help learners avoid lots of mistakes when translating from English into Chinese. It will also help them see how Chinese grammar reflects core Chinese cultural attitudes and practices.

說話的速度，反映了該語言每個單字的資訊成分，了解這點能更有助於安排學習方式

An important feature of Chinese is that each syllable has a much higher information value than it does in many languages, which means on average, Chinese needs to be spoken more slowly for the listener to have enough time to process and understand everything that is said. If a foreign language is spoken more quickly, it generally means that the information value of individual syllables is much lower. This is useful information for a language learner to be aware of. Some students have even said it made them a little proud to be native speakers of Chinese! :)
