在email裡寫“I am thankful”為什麼錯了

有些字感覺起來很像,但適用的情境卻大不相同。Thankful和grateful就是個很典型的例子。Ken想要開發海外的合作機會,他給潛在的合作對象的Email寫道:

I would be very thankful if you could send me more information about your company. (X)
如果能寄給我更多貴公司的資料,我將非常感激。

這樣寫為什麼錯了?
Thankful這種感激,多半用來形容經歷過不愉快的經驗之後而感到的寬慰與感激。有點像「謝天謝地,還好…..」,請別人寄資料,對方尚未行動,不會有「還好、慶幸」這類的感激之情。一起看看這兩個字具體有何不同:

Grateful
有人幫了你,你真心感謝他,用grateful。

Thankful
鬆了一口氣,還好沒事的感謝

Grateful、Thankful比一比

Thank you so much for helping us move house. We are so grateful. 謝謝你幫我們搬家。我們真的很感激
I was thankful that the meeting didn't last long, because I had to get home. 真慶幸會議沒有開太長,我得趕回家。
Sherry was grateful to her teachers and also thankful that she had passed her exams. 雪莉很感激她的老師,同時謝天謝地考試All pass。

Thankful

1) be thankful (to someone) for something 感激(某人)做了某事
Tom is thankful to Mary for the help. 湯姆很感激瑪莉的幫忙

2) be thankful for someone/something 慶幸某人/某事的存在
I’m thankful for you. 還好有你
I'm thankful for this year. 這一年真的太讓人感激了。

3) be thankful that 子句 感恩
I was just thankful that no one was killed or hurt. 我只是很感恩沒有任何人傷亡。

Grateful
4) be grateful to someone for something 感謝、感激
We are grateful for the support we have received from family, friends and the local community. 我們很感謝所有來自家人朋友和當地社區的支持
