學譬喻=理解英語文化：活動與狀態是個空間

英文的活動(activities) 和狀態(states) 如同容器或建築物， 用時間與空間劃出邊界，參加活動時進入屋內(in)，結束離開(out) 這個空間。

ACTIVITIES = CONTAINERS

 

Were you in the race on Monday?

禮拜一的比賽你有參加嗎?

In a meeting with the boss, I mute my phone.

在跟老闆會面的過程中，我把手機關靜音。

How did you get into this job?

你怎麼進入這個工作的?

He is out of the game.

他在這場遊戲中出局了。

Outside of reading novels, what else did you do?

讀小說外，你還做了什麼?

How did he get out of clearing the room?

他怎麼逃過整理房間的?

 

STATES = CONTAINERS

 

She is in love.

她正在熱戀中。

I'm out of trouble.

我脫困了。

He's getting into shape.

他正在進入狀況了。
