高語境文化的獨有現象
What makes Taiwan high context?

對台灣人來說，你並不會特別覺得在日常生活的交際中有什麼暗示或手勢，那是因為已經習慣成自然了，有研究歸納出，高語境文化主要依賴以「人」為主來傳達訊息，如許多不成文的傳統習慣、價值觀、社會普遍公認的行為模式。

和同事有私交

在台灣，三五同事加班後一起晚餐、相約唱歌是很正常的事，但是在低語境國家，像是美國加拿大就不太常見，因為他們強調工作與生活平衡，公私分明。

招待商業夥伴或客戶

台灣職場文化中，有不少產業把應酬聚會，當做商業合作的成功其一關鍵，像是下班後帶著客戶參觀附近知名的景點、到負有盛名的餐廳用餐，酒足飯飽後再來一場盡興的KTV，這些都是典型的高語境社交文化；歐美國家雖然也有所謂的商業午餐，但比起上述正式許多。

同一句話，中文英文不同感受

1. 想和對方打探工作機會

你心想：I want a job with your company.

• 中文（高語境）:
  Let’s get dinner

• 英文（低語境）:
  Let’s grab coffee, it would be great to pick your brains about any opportunities in the industry.

2. 想幫朋友轉介工作機會

你心想： Can you give my friend a job?

• 中文（高語境）:
  You should meet my friend

• 英文（低語境）:
  You might be interested in meeting my friend, he just graduated from university and has some interesting business ideas.

實際運用在跟外籍同事溝通上

試想下面的問題，如果要和外籍同事（低語境文化）溝通，應該怎麼說才好？

1. 你的員工表現不好，你想要他們重做

□  This isn’t good. Can you do it again?

□  Hmm. This looks ok, how much time did you spend on it?

□  There some details in here I’m not satisfied with. Would you have time in your schedule to re-do it

2. 你的美國客戶來台北休假，但你想要趁機和他談談公事

□  You should meet my family.

□  Let me take you to my favorite restaurant. It would be great to talk a little bit about how the market is going, if it wouldn’t be an interruption to your vacation.

□  Can we have a meeting to talk about last quarter’s sales?

3. 你想要為一位表現良好的同事慶功

□  You handled this case very well. Maybe we could get drinks with the team to celebrate if you’re free one night this week.

□  Are you free for dinner tonight?

□  You did a really good job this time, your work is way better than everyone else’s!
