Chinese bike-sharing venture starts in Japan

Mobike, a large Chinese bike-sharing company, is launching a new service in Japan, which they hope will allow them to expand to other parts of the country and ultimately expand around the world.

The company had a launch event on Tuesday, and began business on Wednesday. They currently are present in 160 cities around the world and are tapping into the popularity of eco-friendly transportation.

The service works by riders using their smartphone to scan a QR code to unlock the bike and then the fee will be charged to the user’s credit card.

Chris Martin, head of international development, hopes Mobike will give users the chance to not only see beautiful sights, but also provide education about how to create a sustainable environment.
