No sale 不是東西賣不出去！

"No sale!"

別搞錯了，no sale 和有沒有銷售沒關係。來看看 sale 和 sell，常用卻還是會搞錯意思的單字。

1. No sale.
（Ｘ）沒有銷售。
（Ｏ）不行／想都別想。

No sale 其實就是斷然拒絕，英文的解釋是 "I reject the request, offer, or plan in question." 拒絕提出來的要求或計畫。接近中文說的「不行、想都別想」。

用法及例句：

• I wanted to go to Japan for the holidays, but my father said, "No sale. " 我本來想要去日本度假，可是我爸說："不行！＂

• He wants to ask me a favor? No sale. 他想要請我幫忙？別想。

2. Don’t sell yourself short.
（Ｘ）別以為自己很矮。
（Ｏ）別小看自己。

Sell 是「賣」，short 有「不足、短缺」的意思 Sell short 本來就有賣空的意思。

• People sell short when they expect the market to decline. 人們在預料市價會跌時就賣空。

中間加了個人，把某人賣空，引申為「小看人、把人瞧扁了」：

• Tell them about your achievements -- don't sell yourself short. 把你的成就告訴他們--別看不起自己。

3. He was sold again.
（Ｘ）他又被賣了。
（Ｏ）他又上當了。

Sell 在口語中，原來就有「欺騙」的意思，有時會更簡單地用 Sold again! 又上當了！

除了當動詞，也有名詞用法，例如：

• The whole thing was a sell. 這完全是個騙局。

4. flash sale
（Ｘ）閃光燈特賣
（Ｏ）限時特賣／限時搶購

Flash 原來是「閃光」，但近來流行的「快閃」也用這個字，「快閃族」英文叫 flash mob。

Flash sale，字面意思是「一場快速的售賣」，指 「限時特賣、限時減價」，但折扣較大的促銷活動。店家有時會貼上「a flash sale」當作促銷。

• If you want to buy flight tickets, look out for the flash sales which are common after Christmas.
