你的名字也變慣用語？

英文中的慣用語千變萬化，就連「人名」也能藏在其中，比較為人熟知的像是：Uncle Sam代表美國政府、Adam’s apple指的是人類的喉結等等。先熟悉以下幾個慣用語，下次在不同場合聽到自己的名字時，才不會急著回頭喊：「有！」

Happy as Larry 欣喜若狂

She was happy as Larry when she finally got to see her old friends from high school.

當她終於見到高中的老朋友時，她簡直欣喜若狂。

Rob Peter to pay Paul 拆東牆補西牆；借債還債

Using credit cards to pay the debt is like robbing Peter to pay Paul.

用信用卡來還債根本就是拆東牆補西牆。

Johnny-come-lately 新來的或遲到的人

Although he’s a Johnny-come-lately in the office, he’s doing pretty well.

雖然他是辦公室裡的菜鳥，但他表現得還不錯。

Every Tom, Dick, and Harry 任何人；隨便什麼人

She’s very selective about the guest list as she doesn’t want every Tom, Dick, and Harry to show up to her wedding.

她非常嚴格篩選宴客名單，因為她不希望有什麼張三李四出現在她的婚禮上。
