Violent Protests 遍地開花的示威遊行

近幾週,從香港、智利、厄瓜多再到西班牙加泰隆尼亞,世界各地爆發許多大規模的抗議行動。雖然各國抗議理由不盡相同,但大致與民生經濟、政商貪腐、人民參政權有關。由人民發起的示威活動大多遵守和平理性的原則,但在政府強硬的鎮壓手段下已逐漸演變為地區性的暴力行為。

智利 Chile
地鐵票價引爆衝突,智利首都進入緊急狀態
Chilean President Sebastián Piñera declared a state of emergency after days of violent protests in the country's capital. Hundreds have taken to the streets of Santiago and surrounding cities in recent days to protest against the rising cost of public transport, vandalizing metro stations and even setting an electrical company building on fire.

厄瓜多 Ecuador
長達12天的油價補貼之亂,厄瓜多示威民眾與政府達成協議
The protests began after the government announced an end to fuel subsidies as part of public spending cuts agreed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in return for a loan. Clashes between protesters and riot police led Mr. Moreno to declare a two-month national emergency. Ecuador’s government has agreed to restore fuel subsidies in a deal with indigenous leaders to end mass protests that have brought the capital, Quito, to a standstill.

西班牙 Spain
西班牙法庭判處加泰隆尼亞獨立運動人士重刑,引爆另一波衝突
Street violence escalated in Barcelona,as protesters set cars on fire and threw acid at police officers as nine pro-independence leaders were arrested for their roles in the failed 2017 push for regional independence. After receiving a signal from Tsunami Democràtic, the social network that is guiding demonstrators, the crowd dispersed to gather outside the headquarters of a Spanish government department. After confrontations with police they headed back towards the city centre, setting fire to barricades.

諾貝爾和平獎 Peace Prize
消弭邊界衝突及提倡性別平等,衣索比亞總理榮獲諾貝爾和平獎
The 2019 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed who made peace last year with bitter foe Eritrea. He was awarded the prize for his efforts to “achieve peace and international cooperation”. After becoming prime minister in April 2018, he freed thousands of opposition activists from jail and allowed exiled dissidents to return home. Under his regime, several women have also been appointed to prominent positions.

以語言的獨創性來探索人類的獨特性,奧地利作家漢德克摘下文學獎桂冠
The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2019 was awarded to the Austrian author Peter Handke. The 76-year-old Austrian playwright, novelist and poet was recognized for "an influential work with linguistic ingenuity that explored the periphery and the specificity of the human experience. Handke, credited as one of the most thought-provoking writers in the German language, burst onto the literary scene in the 1960s and "has for some decades been one of the most influential writers of contemporary fiction", the Nobel judges said.

諾貝爾醫學獎 Medicine Prize
解開細胞中的氧氣運用之謎,美英三學者共同拿下醫學界最高殊榮
William G. Kaelin Jr., Sir Peter J. Ratcliffe and Gregg L. Semenza won the 2019 Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine. The trio “identified molecular machinery that regulates the activity of genes in response to varying levels of oxygen,” according to The Nobel Assembly. Their work, says the Assembly, has “paved the way for promising new strategies to fight anemia, cancer, and many other diseases.
