眼睛最容易認錯的英文單字

英文是一門很有學問的語言，而通常初學英文的人不但會被英文文法搞到暈頭轉向，更會被英文龐大的單字量所震懾。而且許多單字又共享相同的拼法或發音，讓人不知所措，就連英文母語人士也經常搞混這些單字，就讓我們來看看這幾組容易搞混的英文單字吧。

1. Advice VS. Advise
這兩個單字擁有類似的拼法，相似的涵義，發音也只有微小的差別，因此我們常常會忽略這兩者的差別。

Advice (n.)- 尾音發”s”的聲音-做名詞使用。
You can give your friend some advice.

你可以給予別人「建議」。
Advise (v.)- 尾音發”z”的聲音-做動詞使用。
You can advise your friend.
你可以「建議」別人做某事。

2. Compliment VS. Complement
這一組單字的發音一模一樣，拼法也差不多，也皆可做動名詞使用，但我們必須搞清楚兩者的差別。

Compliment不管做名詞或動詞使用，皆有讚揚、讚美別人的意思。
動詞: I complimented my sister on her extraordinary cooking skills.
我稱讚我姐姐的高超廚藝。
名詞: I gave my sister a compliment on her extraordinary skills.
我給我姐姐的高超廚藝一個讚美。

Complement當兩件事情互相搭配良好或者使對方更完整，另外還有補充的意思。
My blue tie really complements my white shirt (My blue tie and white shirt go well together).
我藍色的領帶很搭配我的白色襯衫。
That wine complements the meat dish well.
那酒跟這盤肉很搭。

3. Emigrant VS. Immigrant
大家也經常搞錯這一組單字，但其實分辨這兩者很簡單，雖然中文都是「移民」的意思，Emigrant是從近到遠，Immigrant是從遠到近，只要記得動線，很容易就可以知道要使用哪個單字。

Emigrant-「移出者」
The emigrants spent three weeks aboard ship before landing in Los Angeles.
一個離開自己的祖國到別的國家定居的人。

Immigrant-「移入者」
Most of the immigrants have hard times finding new jobs.
一個進入和定居在一個新的國家的人。

4. Alternatively VS. Alternately
這組看起來幾乎一模一樣的單字，意思上卻有著很大的不同。

Alternatively-或者、要不
You can choose a large bookcase or, alternatively, you can buy two small ones.
你可以選一個大的書架，要不，也可以買兩個小的。

Alternately-輪流地、交替
He put the watermelon in his lap and alternately tapped it with his knuckles and slapped it with is palm.
他把西瓜放在他的大腿上，然後用他的關節和掌心交替地敲打在西瓜上。

5. Affect VS. Effect
大家熟悉的是affect跟effect中文都可以翻成「影響」，所以可能會認為這兩個字是同義字，但事實上他們是不同的。

Affect (v.)- 當動詞用，指的是「去影響什麼」或是「去改變什麼」。
The president’s decision will affect the lives of millions of people.
那位總統的決定，會影響數以百萬人名的生活。

Effect (n.)- 當名詞用，指的是「效應、結果」。
The president’s decision will have an effect on the lives of millions of people.
那位總統的決定，會導致數以百萬人名的生活受到影響。
