三星接班人李在鎔,一審判刑五年

Samsung heir sentenced to five years in jail

00:10
Lee Jae-yong, the chairman of Samsung, has just been sentenced to five years in prison for crimes. The billionaire, South Korea’s third-richest man and heir to the Samsung empire, had been accused of making large donations to foundations in return for political favors from the president.

00:29
Lee’s lawyers said they do not agree with the verdict. Lee’s case could end up being decided by the country’s supreme court next year. Four other top Samsung executives were also convicted and received sentences of up to four years.

00:44
Despite claims by his legal team that Lee had little involvement in the day-to-day management of Samsung, the court ruled that he had approved the donations.

00:55
Lee, the heir to South Korea’s richest family and its biggest company, had been accused of offering $38m (£30m) in bribes to four groups controlled by a friend of the recently impeached president.

01:08
Investors are concerned about harm to Samsung’s ability to make key strategic decisions. Samsung employees at the firm were surprised and concerned for its future.
