參加會議或考試用「join」，是中式英語...「join」的4個錯誤用法別再犯

Join這個字看似簡單，很多人只要想到「參加」，就脫口而出，像join a party、join an exam。其實它不是這樣用。先來看幾個常見的錯誤：

1. 我下週六會去參加一個派對。

（Ｘ）I will join a party next Saturday.
（O）I am going to a party next Saturday.

Join這個字基本的意思是「成為其中的一員」，Join a party，聽起來像是要參加某個政黨，成為黨員。例如：

He joined the party in 1999. 他1999年入黨。

參加一個party，並不是成為其中一員，只是去那兒，直接用go to 顯得更自然。

2. 我明天要參加一個考試。

（Ｘ）I will join an exam tomorrow.
（Ｏ）I will take an exam tomorrow.
（Ｏ）I will sit/sit for an exam tomorrow.

參加考試，這個參加，其實是「執行、做」，美國人用take，英國人更直接用sit或sit for，意象鮮明，是坐在那兒寫考題。

3. 我將下個星期會在倫敦參加一場會議。

（不好）I will join a conference in London next week.
（好）I will attend a conference in London next week.

參加會議較常用attend/go to，比較少用join這個字。

當我們用 join一個活動，它多半已經開始，正在進行中。看一個例子，幫助大家了解：

You can start the meeting without me. I may join in later. 你們可以先開會，不必等我，也許我等一會才會加入。

我們開電話會議，很常用到join a Zoom meeting這個詞，這並不指要跟Zoom開會，而是在Zoom上「成為與會者」這個動作。例如：

How do I join a Zoom meeting?

（Ｘ）我如何參加Zoom舉辦的會議？
（Ｏ）我怎麼用Zoom開會?

4. 要不要和我們一起用午餐？

（不好）Will you join our dinner?
（好）Will you join us for dinner?

要邀別人參加，join後面更常加用人，而不是活動。

例如：如果你邀請別人，例如，我們常問的：

Would you like to join us？ 要不要加入我們？
Could I join you? （我可以加入你們嗎?）

Join的道地用法

再來學2個join的道地用法：

1. Join the queue 請排隊

If you’re buying tickets, please join the queue. 如果你要買票，請排隊。

Queue是排隊的隊伍，join the queue，就成為排隊成員之一，意思就是stand at the end of it，請往後面排。

2. Join the club! 彼此彼此

Join the club表面上的意思加入俱樂部，但老外這麼說，多半是窘境中的幽默。就是指我和你一樣，多半是處在不好狀態，有點同病相憐味道。例如：

If you’re confused, join the club! 你也搞不懂吧，我也一樣。

用在對話中：

A: "I’ve got no money till the end of this week." 一直到週末之前我都身無分文。
B: "Join the club!" 彼此彼此！
