系統lag，capture畫面….這些英文你可能講錯了

科技業中，英文夾雜著中文的溝通方式已經成為日常習慣，但許多詞語若直接翻譯成英文，可能會讓外國人困惑。前不久，我們的專欄當中指出科技業英文口語錯誤。獲得一些工程師讀者的共鳴：「我真的就是這樣講英文啊！」

科技業讀者希望我們能給更多的錯誤例子，以下是一些實例，幫助你更精準地表達，避免出現語言誤會。

我們的系統最近很lag。

•錯誤用法:

(Ｘ) Our system is very lag recently.

•正確用法:

(Ｏ) Our system has been very slow lately.

雖然 "lag" 是常用的技術術語，意思是「延遲」，經常用作動詞。

例如：

If I try to access any of the folders or files, the computer lags seriously. 如果我嘗試存取任何資料夾或檔案，電腦就會嚴重延遲。

 "The system is lag." 這句話文法是錯的。可以用lagging，但用 "slow" 更簡明扼要，表示反應遲鈍或效率低。

這個功能可以customize一下嗎？

•錯誤用法:

(Ｘ) Can we customize this function a little?

•正確用法:

(Ｏ) Can we tailor this feature?

"Customize" 也有客製化的意思，但customize function，不是老外慣用口語，在一般談話中，"tailor the feature" 更為精煉，尤其在描述根據需求對功能進行調整時，它傳遞了「量身定制」的概念。

等一下幫我capture這個畫面。

•錯誤用法:

(Ｘ) Please capture image for me later.

•正確用法:

(Ｏ) Please take a screenshot of this for me.

"Capture" 可以用來描述截取數據或畫面，但在口語中，截圖，截取畫面，用"take a screenshot" 更加直白，也更符合日常溝通習慣。

這個程式要先initialize。

•錯誤用法:

(Ｘ) This program needs to initialize first.

•正確用法:

(Ｏ) This program needs to be set up first.

"Initialize" 是專業的程式術語，用於描述程式初始化的過程，在這個句子裡，必須以被動方式表現

This program needs to be initialized first. 但這麼講就算文法無礙，也不自然，一般對話中，"set up" 更簡單易懂。

系統維護會downtime幾個小時。

•錯誤用法:

(Ｘ) The maintenance will downtime for a few hours.

•正確用法:

(Ｏ) The system will be offline for a few hours during maintenance.

Downtime是指「系統、設備或機器無法運行，停止工作的時間」。是名詞。例如：

Our website experienced downtime due to server maintenance.　我們的網站因為伺服器維護而有停機時間。

在溝通系統不可用的期間時間，一般口語就說"be offline" 更容易理解。
