that通常可以代替除了whose以外的所有關係代名詞，甚至在特定條件下，只能使用that當作關係代名詞。

1. 所代替的名詞包含「人與事物」

The girl and her dog that were walking across the street nearly got hit by a truck.

剛才正在過馬路的那個女孩和她的狗差點被一輛卡車撞上。

2. 所代替的名詞前面有「次序」、「最高級」、the only、the very、the same，或是all、everything、anything、nothing等
