Most of us work long hours every day for our careers, but research has shown that we could suffer more chronic diseases later in life. For women, unfortunately, it’s worse.

Women who work over 40 hours per week have up to four times the risk of getting arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, asthma, and non-skin cancer. The longer women work, the greater the risk.

For men though, they only have twice the risk of arthritis when they work over 60 hours per week. It’s not clear why women are worse off, but it could be because of their other roles besides work, such as parenting, worrying about their family’s health, and household responsibilities.

So women, take some well-deserved time out to look after yourselves and clear your minds, whether it’s exercise, reading a book or simply watching TV. And men, make sure you help out with the family and at home!
