AP:聯合國秘書長:新冠疫情將從人類浩劫轉為人權危機

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on 23rd April that the coronavirus pandemic is “a human crisis that is fast becoming a human rights crisis.”

Guterres said the pandemic has also seen “disproportionate effects on certain communities, the rise of hate speech, the targeting of vulnerable groups, and the risks of heavy-handed security responses undermining the health response.”

He warned that with “rising ethno-nationalism, populism, authoritarianism, and a push back against human rights in some countries, the crisis can provide a pretext to adopt repressive measures for purposes unrelated to the pandemic.”

The Times:好友關係生變?瑞典關閉境內所有孔子學院

Sweden has shut down the last of its Chinese state-sponsored teaching programs as relations between the two countries deteriorate into hostility and mutual suspicion. It is believed to be the first European state to close all its Confucius institutes and classrooms, which teach Chinese language and culture with funding from Beijing. Analysts regard the closure as a sign that the once-cordial ties between Sweden and China are unravelling at speed amid accusations of bullying, meddling, and incompetence.

The state of Missouri in the USA is suing the Chinese government and other top institutions for the role they played in the coronavirus pandemic and the effects it has had on the state, accusing the country of covering up information, silencing whistleblowers, and doing little to stop the spread of the disease, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced on 4/21. Those, among other actions taken by Chinese officials, had a massive toll on human health and has led to "enormous" economic disruptions across the world, according to the lawsuit.

They are denouncing Taiwan’s exclusion from the World Health Organization. They are flaunting celebrity endorsements and creating hashtags like #TaiwanCanHelp.

The world is responding;American and European officials have praised Taiwan’s donations of more than 10 million masks. Politicians, business leaders, and celebrities, including Bill Gates and Barbra Streisand, have hailed the island as exemplary in its fight against the coronavirus.

CNN Business:Netflix逆勢狂漲 但仍對未來感到憂慮

Netflix had added a stunning 16 million subscribers between January and March as the coronavirus pandemic led people to hunker down and binge on hit docuseries such as "Tiger King" and reality shows like "Love is Blind." The company's stock has gained 34% this year while the S&P 500 has lost more than 15%. Its shares held steady in premarket trading.

But Netflix is still worried about the future. "In our 20+ year history, we have never seen a future more uncertain or unsettling," the company said in a letter to shareholders.
