哪裡不一樣—— Maintain VS. Remain
Maintain是動手、行動去維持、維修，因此有這些慣用說法：
maintain his composure （保持鎮定）
maintain one’s family （養家餬口）
Remain 是停留，保持不變的狀態，例如：
He remains silent. （他保持沉默）
It remains a secret. （這仍是個秘密。）
Problems remain. （問題還在。）
Remain另一個意思是剩餘；遺留，例如：
Only the shell of the house remained after the fire. （火災後，這間房子只剩下外殼。）
想一想，「維持現狀」該用remain還是maintain？答案是：
maintain the status quo
“status quo”是現狀，而現狀其實需要不斷努力去維持的，所以用maintain。
