精解「尷尬」的空氣成分

英文沒有一個字能完美等於中文的「尷尬」，如果我們拆解這個單詞，你可以用awkward形容一個在公開場合發生的笨拙、不自然的時刻；可以用embarrassing來形容難為情、丟臉等心裡的糾結，包含生理心理反應；或者用hilarious，觀察事件發生帶來的「後勁」，像是笑點、滑稽或效果。

所謂的尷尬…

是指人的「行為」跟「場合」出現不一致的時候

1. 社交空白時間

跟不熟的人聊天 stuck in an awkward conversation

不小心跟陌生人揮手/對到視線waved back at someone who wasn't waving to you

跟爸媽一起看鐵達尼號(或其他有尷尬場景的電影) the most mortifying filmgoing experience

突然忘記要說的話 when your mind went blank

遇到已分手的情人ran into your ex 

2. 少根筋的日常尷尬

推開忘記上鎖的廁所 opened door to a toilet stranger

褲子拉鍊沒有拉 zipper was down

偷拍被發現 forgot to turn off the camera shutter sound

自言自語被聽到 soliloquist/people who talk to themselves

3. 現代文明尷尬

明明坐在旁邊卻用手機傳訊息digital Whispering

傳訊息聊天不知道怎麼結束只好放貼圖didn't know how to exit a conversation

出去玩大家都在滑手機…只好跟著滑 phubbing

這些字都有尷尬成分

-動作有點笨拙：

awkward , lacking social skills, clumsy, inelegant, amateurish, foolish

模擬情境：重複不要超過三次

When you've already said "what?" three times and still have no idea what the person said, so you just agree.

-心裡覺得丟臉：

embarrassed, uncomfortable, ashamed, abashed, disconcerted, bashful, discomforted

模擬情境：說話不要太快

Accidentally said "I'll give you my mobile numble" to a man today.

-旁人覺得有趣：

hilarious, funny, droll, ludicrous, humoristic, comical, entertaining

模擬情境 想一想覺得不太對勁
