古巴導彈危機

1962年冷戰時期，加勒比海地區發生導彈危機，美蘇之間差點引發核戰。事件過後，許多人稱讚是甘迺迪的冷靜、果敢使美國最終擺脫了危機。甘迺迪一開始對古巴採用封鎖，並秘密與蘇聯駐美國的大使談判。最後，秘密外交談判成功，美國保證不入侵古巴，蘇聯從古巴撤回所有攻擊性武器。

西柏林發表演說

冷戰期間德國分裂為東西德，柏林雖也分為東柏林、西柏林，仍位在東德政府範圍，為了區隔，東德政府從1948年開始封鎖西柏林，並修築一道環繞西柏林的圍牆，稱「反法西斯防衛牆」，也就是柏林圍牆，即使偷渡的人將被合法槍殺，仍有許多人逃到象徵自由的西柏林。幾十年後，當柏林人以為自由無望了，1963年到訪的甘迺迪說出這句救贖名言，不但讓柏林人重燃信心，也是甘迺迪政治生涯中最動人的一刻。

冷戰期間，1959年蘇聯成功發射抵達月球軌道的探測器月球一號，美國人心惶惶，隨後就任總統的甘迺迪為了穩定民心，宣布願景「十年內登陸月球」，從此大幅改革科學教育制度，培養科學人才。雖然他在1963年遇刺，但是他的承諾在1969年阿波羅11號的太空人登陸月球那一刻，終於實現。
