訴說往事—過去式Past Tense

請先閱讀以下段落：

Danny noticed the door of 237 was open (5) when he was riding a tricycle down the hallway alone (6). Even though Mr. Hallorann had warned him not to go anywhere near room 237, his curiosity got the better of him (7). He had been suffering from nightmares and terrifying visions ever since he went into the room (8).

當Danny獨自在走廊上騎著三輪車時，他注意到237號房的門是開著的。雖然Hallorann先生曾警告他絕對不要靠近237號房，但他還是抵擋不住強烈的好奇心。自從進去過那個房間後，他就飽受惡夢及恐怖的幻覺所苦。

過去四時態時間軸

(5) 過去簡單式

用來表示過去所發生的事件、動作或習慣，而該事件或動作已經在過去某個時間點結束。

(6) 過去進行式

用來描述過去某個時間點持續進行的事件或動作。

(7) 過去完成式

通常用來描述過去發生的兩個事件或動作，先發生或完成的事件或動作用過去完成式，後來的則用過去簡單式。

(8) 過去完成進行式

與過去完成式的用法相同，只是主要用來強調動作的進行與持續。

過去簡單式 Simple Past

Danny noticed the door of 237 was open.

Danny注意到237號房的門是開著的。

Tip: 強調過去發生了這個動作

過去完成式 Past Perfect

Even though Mr. Hallorann had warned him not to go anywhere near room 237, his curiosity got the better of him.

雖然Hallorann先生曾警告他絕對不要靠近237號房，但他還是抵擋不住強烈的好奇心。

Tip: 強調在更早之前就已經警告過他，也就是「過去的過去」
