The Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling was accused of making "anti-trans comments" on Twitter, just six months after she came under fire for her support of a researcher who lost her job due to her transphobic tweets. The writer is now labeled “TERF”, trans-exclusionary radical feminist.

The fire started from J.K. Rowling’s tweet about the wording of a headline for an opinion article, which read, "Opinion: Creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate." Rowling repost the title and tweeted, "'People who menstruate.' I'm sure there used to be a word for those people," "Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?"
Opinion: Creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate.",其中people who menstruate直譯為「有月經的人」,但羅琳質疑,「有月經的人?

Some of J.K. Rowling’s followers remind her that this tweet is inappropriate since many people who identify as women, such as transgender women and women who have gone through menopause, may not get their periods, while some people who do not identify as women may still menstruate, such as transgender men and some who identify as non-binary.

Rowling posted a few tweets to defend herself later, but it only added to the controversy as she seems to express her framing of trans and non-binary-inclusive language as "erasing the concept of sex.". On 10 June, she explained her final reason of speaking out about transgender issues on her blog. She wrote: "I've been in the public eye now for over 20 years and have never talked publicly about being a domestic abuse and sexual assault survivor.

"I'm mentioning these things now not in an attempt to garner sympathy, but out of solidarity with the huge numbers of women who have histories like mine, who've been slurred as bigots for having concerns around single-sex spaces." She wrote.

Daniel Radcliffe, the star of the Harry Potter film series, and Eddie Redmayne, who leads the cast of the Fantastic Beasts movies, have both criticized Rowling for her comments about transgender issues. Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger in the Potter franchise, said: "Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren't who they say they are."
