老闆問：“Do you have any bandwidth?”不是問你頻寬夠不夠！

會議快結束時，主管轉過來問 Ken 一句：

“Do you have any bandwidth?”

他愣了一下。

頻寬？網路？速度不夠嗎？

但其實，主管問的不是這個。

bandwidth 這個字，很多人其實「看得懂」，
但一進到職場英文溝通，就會弄錯。

Bandwidth 原本是技術用語，確實是「頻寬」。例如：

“There’s a bandwidth bottleneck during peak hours.”
（尖峰時段會出現頻寬瓶頸。）

但在職場對話中，它經常和網路無關，而是在講人。

當有人說：

“I don’t have the bandwidth for this.”

意思不是他沒網速，
而是——他現在沒有多餘的時間、精力，或處理空間。

這是一個在科技業、外商公司非常常見的用法。

所以主管問：

• Do you have any bandwidth?

真正想知道的是：你還能不能再接一件事。

這個字，可以延伸出一整組用法。

1｜拿來問人：你還撐得住嗎

• Do you have the bandwidth to take this on?
（你還有餘力接這件事嗎）

• I don’t think I have the bandwidth this week.
（這週真的不行）

2｜拿來回應：不是不想，是不可能

回答I’m busy. 沒有錯。

但你如果在會議上這樣回，
通常下一句就會變成：

“Okay, but can you still help a bit?”

但如果你說：

• I’m at full bandwidth this week.

那個空間，就不太一樣了。

3｜拿來談團隊：資源夠不夠

• The team doesn’t have the bandwidth to support this.
（團隊沒有餘力支援）

• We need more bandwidth on this project.
（這個案子需要更多人力／資源）

類似這樣的「借用字」延伸出來抽象概念，其實很多。

1. alignment
   不是對齊，是共識

• Are we aligned on this? 

（Ｘ）我們有對齊嗎？

（Ｏ）我們有共識了嗎?

1. visibility
   不是可見度，是掌握度

• I need more visibility on this. 

（Ｘ）我想要看這個。

（Ｏ）我需要更清楚掌握這件事的狀況／這件事我需要更多進度資訊。

1. ownership
   不是擁有，是誰要負責

• Who owns this?

（Ｘ）誰擁有這個？

（Ｏ）誰負責這件事？

回到一開始的問題，
當老闆那樣問，如果你是 Ken，可以怎麼回答？

如果你其實接得下：

• “Yeah, I can take this on.”
• “I should be able to fit this in.”

如果有點滿，但還想留一點空間：

• “I’m a bit tight this week, but I can try.”

如果已經滿了：

• “I’m at full bandwidth this week.”
• “I don’t think I have the bandwidth right now.”
